My son in his usual way was walking around holding a random piece of plastic toy train track. He occasionally will chew on random stuff. This was no exception. Lots of prompting on our part to get it out of his mouth.
Would you like to know what he did tonight when I told him "out of mouth please". Of course you do! It's gonna be good. Seriously you will not be disappointed.
He took it out and then STUCK IT IN MY EAR!!!!!!!!
Did I lie? Betcha did not see that coming. Anymore than I did. WTF kiddo???
I try to understand him. Try to open my eyes to his world. See things the way he does. But I'm sorry. What the Hell was that?!?!
If that wasn't a WTF moment in parenting, I don't know what was.
In kiddo's defense, you asked him not to put it in his mouth. You said nothing about not putting it in your ear. ;)
ReplyDeleteDoes he have you on retainer? :-) We don't need him looking for loop holes.
DeleteHaha! My son did something very similar and I couldn't get mad bc he did listen to me. (My son is 2 1/2 and is non-verbal w/ autism) kids are hilarious
DeleteHe promised to share his fries if I came up with a good excuse.
DeleteTo help with the chewing, we got my kiddo stuff called chewelry. I found a ton of it on amazon. It is chewable plastic in a variety of shapes and colors. Chewelry is a life saver. He chews on his shirt collar and sleeves all the time! Chewelry has saved countless shirts lol
DeleteI am new to your blog. It's my first day reading it in fact, but I am already enjoying it. And this post really hit home!
ReplyDeleteMy son is 2 1/2 with autism. He has a lot of developmental delays and we have been trying to teach him to use a straw. For some reason he is wanting to drink through his nose. (Yeah, I don't get it either.) I told him not to put the straw in his nose. He looked at me with a confused expression and proceeded to shove the straw up MY nose. I felt like I should have better explained. "Son. Do not put the straw up your nose, my nose, the dogs nose..." I am just sad that I didn't have a video of the straw incident and that you don't have a video of the train track incident.
Glad you like the blog! So what you are saying is, watch out. Next time it could be my nose. Good point. :-)
DeleteTrain tracks looking for a tunnel... :)
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid what he is going to do when he is looking for a bridge!
DeleteOh my God that is just too funny Hahaha.... Talk about being careful with what you say Hahaha...
ReplyDeleteThe boy has a future as con artist.
DeleteLOL at least he didn't try to stick it in your mouth.
ReplyDeleteThe next location could be even scarier!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Awesome! I am new follower, not new to Autism. I have a 10 year son with Autism, FINALLY diagnosed at 6. LONG story. I read your story about the day in life of a parent. I can so relate! I look forward to many more adventures of your blog.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed it. I got another Im posting today. Stay tuned!
DeleteOh goodness, I can totally relate to this post. My son has a huge issue with things going into his mouth, namely his hands. My most recent WTF moment with him was when he came into the room and showed me how he can shove his WHOLE HAND into his mouth. EW EW EW.. I do not even want to KNOW where that impulse came from, or how he figured that trick out.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Kiddo wants to be a conductor when he gets older? LOL So glad to find another mom with a sense of humor.
